Quite a nice number, eh? And I feel fine, too. :)
It's only noon, but I've already received loads and loads of birthday wishes! Thank you all. I'll try and enjoy this day as much as possible. ♥

Philosophy Essay

I've just received the result from the Department of Philosophy. Oh my god. I've done it. I passed. With flying colours.
This either means I'm a far better philosopher than I thought - or that everything is possible.
Joy! ♥

Preparing for an Upcoming Thyroid Marathon

Went to have bloodwork done.
Flirted with nurse.
Think she took more blood than necessary.
Oh woe.

Violin Update

SO! We went to the doctor today and the prognosis is good!
Of course, he diagnosed several major ailments and seems we'll need at least two transplants, but the patient should be completely healthy by the end of October. Yay! :D
It will cost a small fortune indeed, perhaps even slightly bit more than a completely new violin, but this one has a considerable emotional value, as it´s my only bond with a grandfather I never knew. Also, even if I got a new violin for the same prize, it would only be a very cheap, factory-made one with the basic strings. All in all, it's much better to have this one repaired and expertly adjusted. I can hardly wait. Will refresh my theoretical knowledge meanwhile. And find a place to train. As I have already mentioned, I can't really train at home, because the co-op would surely find it a good reason to pester us, but I suppose that I can always go to the nearby park or even a bit farther to the forrest and fields. Well, not always - as long as the warm weather lasts. Also, my mother says I can come and train at my parent's place anytime I want, but I am not sure she knows what she's talking about. After all, she's nearly 64 and I don't think she could stand listening to someone trying to play a violin. She's nervous enough as it is.
We shall see. For the time being, I'm just happy the patient seems to be on the way to recovery.

Funeral Went Well

...that is, as well as a funeral can go. I admit I was not so sad because of great-auntie (let's be fair - she led a very long, eventful life and certainly had her share of fun) but because everybody else was sad, especially her son (mother's cousin) and my mother, as the old lady was her favourite aunt. Ah, well.
I skipped the family gathering afterwards and went straight to the lab, because I needed some time alone. I didn't really get it, as Dr. S was there, but I didn't mind - his company was very welcome. Then I experienced a little shopping spree on my way home and now I'm here, the rice for tuna sushi is boiling, shrimps are waiting to be grilled, pralines cooling in the fridge and Dana is coming home with some brown sugar, which will go nicely with the white rum, limes, mint and ice which are already waiting here in my kitchen.
To put it in a nutshell, my friends, we are going to celebrate life or - more precisely - the fact that we are out of the closet and not yet in a box.

You know what?

I think I'm getting that violin after all.
I really want to play. And I deserve a nice birthday present. I might have to train in the park (guess I'll freeze in the winter) but I don't care. Let's see if I'm really such a talent as they say.

I'm feeling kind of down...

...for no significant reason. It's more like those hundred little things which torment one to death. It's rainy, cold, I have to work on a translation that's just silly (and difficult), while my own research is covered in cobwebs. My thyroid is sluggish again, which results in permanent tiredness, foggy brain and miraculously fast weight gain - which I do NOT need, but my doctor won't see me sooner than in September, because he's away. Also, my mother is just so easy to annoy these days, which doesn't add well with Dana being prone to true but bad-timed remarks, there's a funeral to attend on Thursday (grand-aunt whom I haven't seen for 25 years) and if the fridge leaks one more time I'll get crazy.
Aaah, I just wish everybody left me alone.

Because the sodding essay is done. I finished at 8:30 AM, after more than 12 hours of writing. It's not perfect - actually, it's not even good and I half expect them to return it. The other half is hoping they'll be merciful. But I'm past caring, really. For now, I only want to have it done and submitted and not having to look at it for at least  four weeks, which is exactly the amount of time they have for checking it. If they tell me to rewrite it then, okay. But now, I want peace and quiet and sleep and more of that Starbucks coffee/chocolate thingy I'm drinking right now.

Writer's Block: Vampires, again?

Is there a TV show that everyone around you watches that you really don't get or like? If so, what is it? To what do you ascribe the odd fascination?

Hmmm... in fact, yes. There are many TV shows that nearly all the people around me like but I don't.
First of such shows was probably Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I just couldn't stand it, yet Dana and all our friends loved it and watched it regularly. These days, it's mainly How I met Your Mother and Sex and the City, which I both think painfully unfunny. Actually, the latter might be one of the stupidest, most embarassing TV shows ever.
Oh, and I'd almost forget - I really hate House, M.D. I have nothing against Hugh Laurie (in fact, I think he's one of the best actors ever), but I sincerely dislike the whole House concept. Haha, rude doctor, very funny. No, it isn't. And yes, I do get the whole thing. And I still don't like it. I've met too many real rude doctors to enjoy this show. The end.
